Everything you need to know about our snack pellet extrusion lines

2D and 3D snack pellets require a slow, low-temperature, and low-shear shaping process to gelatinize potato and corn starches without expanding them prematurely. Our heavy-duty single-screw extruders are mechanically optimized to exert smooth, positive pressure and precise thermal control. This prevents premature steam flash-off at the die face, resulting in dense, glass-like raw pellet blanks that expand perfectly only during final frying or hot-air popping.
The pulling machine uses high-precision silicone rollers with variable speed control to pull the extruded strands smoothly. The cutting unit is directly integrated with custom-molded die-cutting wheels. This configuration synchronizes cutting speeds with the extrusion output, using a clean-shear mechanism that prevents deformation of delicate hollow shapes (such as square and round tubes) before drying.
Freshly extruded pellets have a high moisture content of around 25%-30%. Dehydrating them too rapidly at high temperatures causes the outer starch shell to shrink and lock, creating high internal tensile stresses that cause cracking (checking) during storage. Our multi-layer ovens utilize continuous, gentle hot-air recirculating curves (usually between 55°C and 70°C) to slowly extract core moisture, yielding structurally resilient pellets with a stable 10%-12% final moisture level.
We manufacture our screws and barrel sleeves from premium 38CrMoAl (chrome-molybdenum-aluminum) alloy steel, treated with a deep nitrogen gas nitriding process. This achieves a surface hardness of ≥HV850 and a case depth of 0.5–0.8mm. This metallurgy delivers exceptional resistance to both mechanical abrasion and starch-related chemical corrosion, providing a continuous operating life exceeding 8,000 hours.
Yes. Our lines are highly versatile and process 100% potato starch, cassava starch (tapioca), corn starch, and rice flour. By adjusting the screw speed and heating profiles on our VFD controls, you can optimize the rheological flow of gluten-free starch matrices to achieve high transparency, complete gelatinization, and excellent expansion characteristics.
